Saturdays…

Saturdays are the best…

When nothing is going on.

When you stay in your pajamas all morning.

When you drink an extra cup off coffee.

When you surf your favorite websites until you can’t surf anymore.

When you do it while sitting on the couch with a comfortable blanket.

When you eat waffles until you can’t eat anymore!

This past Saturday was one of those days!  In life I’ve realized how important it is to slow down once in a while and enjoy the simple things… like waffles.  After all, we were not meant to go all the time!  So, here’s to waffles, and lazy Saturday mornings.

This kid is awesome…

photoI don’t know this kid, but I think he’s awesome.  For the past few hours my wife and I haven’t stopped laughing because of the awesomeness that oozes out of this picture.  Here’s why he’s awesome…

He’s willing to be different.

He has a sense of humor and wants others to laugh.

He has cool parents who didn’t request or require a retake.

He wore a t-shirt to school pictures.

I hope today I am as awesome as this kid.  Here’s to a day filled with laughter, and a willingness to be a little different.  In fact, I encourage you and me to be different today.  Be you.  Don’t try to copy the crowd.  Be willing to stand out a bit… just like this kid.

[BTW… Lets hope this picture isn’t just photoshopped.  Even if it was it wouldn’t change my mind.]

Peaking through…

It’s amazing how the sun can change your attitude!  The skies outside my window this morning were dark and grey.  I walked away for ten minutes and came back to this awesome view out my front window.  Simply amazing.

New…

A new year… and with the new year comes new things, new changes, and new opportunities.

Today, my wife started something new.  She went back to doing morning radio, something she hasn’t done in over ten years.  With this new show came nerves, but also new energy, a energy I haven’t seen in her for a few years.  She had so much energy she painted the studio without asking her boss for permission.  She just went in and did it.  I guess working at the same place for 17 years gives you courage to change things without asking [update: I just heard the big boss hates the change… ha ha].

Before my wife went back on the air to celebrate the new show.  My daughter made an awesome cake, and we all stuffed our faces.

As this year begins, I like the new changes so far, and I’m looking to make some changes in my own life.  Here’s to 2015, and here are some pictures of the new studio!

Not available

Screen Shot 2014-05-14 at 8.55.17 AMI love technology.  I love new gadgets.  I love apps, and I think many apps can improve our life to a certain degree — for example the maps app has saved my directionally challenged wife many times.

But a good thing can also become a bad thing if we are not careful.  Too often we find ourselves living life through the tiny screen of our phone, and we miss out on the beauty of a moment or the beauty of a face to face conversation.

That is why I like something I’ve seen lately.  There is a movement to drop the phone and enjoy life.  This week I’ve seen a number of articles that talk about things “not available on the app store.”  Usually it’s a picture of an activity with a sticker that says, “not available on the app store.”

Seeing this little sticker in these pictures got me thinking, what is not available in the app store?

  • A conversation with my wife
  • Wrestling with my kids
  • A good belly laugh with friends
  • Someone truly listening to you process life

So this summer lets still use helpful apps, after all I don’t want my wife lost all summer, but lets also enjoy life that is not available on the app store!
