I love technology. I love new gadgets. I love apps, and I think many apps can improve our life to a certain degree — for example the maps app has saved my directionally challenged wife many times.
But a good thing can also become a bad thing if we are not careful. Too often we find ourselves living life through the tiny screen of our phone, and we miss out on the beauty of a moment or the beauty of a face to face conversation.
That is why I like something I’ve seen lately. There is a movement to drop the phone and enjoy life. This week I’ve seen a number of articles that talk about things “not available on the app store.” Usually it’s a picture of an activity with a sticker that says, “not available on the app store.”

Seeing this little sticker in these pictures got me thinking, what is not available in the app store?
- A conversation with my wife
- Wrestling with my kids
- A good belly laugh with friends
- Someone truly listening to you process life
So this summer lets still use helpful apps, after all I don’t want my wife lost all summer, but lets also enjoy life that is not available on the app store!
