A few weeks ago we looked at 1 Peter 2:1-10, where Jesus is referred to as the cornerstone, chosen and precious. This image of Jesus being the cornerstone sparked a lot of thoughts, especially among those who are builders and know the importance of a cornerstone. My wife Ceci and I sat down with John VanderMaas to hear his thoughts on the importance of the corner, and Jesus being the cornerstone.
This past Sunday Austin and Tate Bonnema came and shared their story with us, and where Jesus is leading them. It was an encouraging time as they talked about all the things they are seeing Jesus do around West Michigan. Austin and Tate lead something called Worship in the Woods, which is a worship time that meets every other week. They will also be leaving in March to live in Zambia for two years and maybe more. Unfortunately, I forgot to record their sharing this past Sunday. However, a friend of mine had them on his podcast, and you can listen their story and hear their hearts in that conversation. Here’s the link to listen to that podcast –
Jesus is our living stone, our cornerstone, chosen and precious, and our firm foundation. He is the only one we are to build our lives on. Because of him, we are living stones, being built up into a spiritual house. We are also called a holy nation, a royal priesthood, a people belonging to him with a clear purpose – to proclaim the excellencies of the One who called us out of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of His marvelous light. This should give us so much hope, a hope people can see, a hope people ask about!
Philippians 4:8 says, “whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
How do you do that? How do we pay attention to what we are thinking and making sure we are only thinking about things that are true, honorable, pure, and lovely? In this recording, I talk with Marta and Jenn and we get really practical when it comes to training our brain. This is something we must actively do. Finally, below you will find a helpful picture to remind you of what God says about you verses what the enemy says about you.
